UK B. rapa sequencing

The BBSRC has announced funding for the UK contribution to Phase 2 sequencing of the Multinational Brassica rapa genome sequencing project. (Dec 06)

Multinational B. rapa sequencing Project

The MBGP Brassica rapa sequencing project met a significan milestone during 2006, with the completion of BAC-end sequencing of >130,000 BACs by an international consortium (Australia,Canada, Germany, Korea, UK, USA), together with the completion of sequencing the set of 530 "anchor seed BACs". This completes the first phase of the project to sequence the all 10 chromosomes of the 500Mbp B. rapa sequence (Brassica napus 'A' genome). Five chromosomes are now being sequenced by Korea (R3,R9), Australia (R7) and the UK-China consortium (R1, R8). It is hoped that further chromosomes are expected to be sequenced by the USA and Canadian projects, subject to funding.
